I enjoy re-visiting posts from our Living Savvy archives. When I re-visit, I
tend to connect to the information and stories shared in a new way, discovering something different depending on what is going on for me or people in my life.
When I am coaching someone, very often an issue will come up that will
have me searching through the archives for a post best suited to help my client work through the process of Living Savvy, supporting them to ask, do, discover, commit & celebrate.
If your dreams, like mine, include a movie star lifestyle of private jets, island retreats and fabulous parties, you may well have given up on the idea of ‘living your dreams’.
You know that no amount of thinking positive, or practising the law of attraction, is going to transform your average day (whether it’s taking care of kids, juggling business meetings, or powering through a mile-long todo list) into one filled with indulgence, glamour and luxury. Am I right?
Know what you want
The first step to living your dreams is to get very clear about what you want – the kind of life that fulfils your needs and allows you to be at your very best.
When asked what you’d do if you won the lotto it’s easy to say, ‘live on a yacht and never work again’, but is that what you really want?
Often our true desires are much simpler, and include making a meaningful contribution through some kind of purposeful work – whether that’s in business, in the home, or in a volunteer organisation. These kinds of dreams are absolutely attainable, though it might be hard to see how when you are already caught up in a busy life.
Try setting aside some time, even an hour a week, to start working towards your dream. Start today with small steps and you’ll be surprised how far you can go. For some extra inspiration listen to Karen, one of our real women living savvy, as she talks about achieving her dreams.
Look past the details…
Still dreaming of travelling the world, draped in couture dresses and sparkling diamonds? Don’t worry, you’re not alone.
A technique I’ve found very powerful is to look past the details of my dream life (private jets, island retreats and fabulous parties) and ask myself what qualities does this lifestyle represent?
For me, it’s about freedom, flexibility and choice. These are qualities I can already celebrate in many aspects of my life – such as working for myself and pursuing creative projects – and I can also think about fine tuning my life further to include these qualities.
Share your dreams
Above all, don’t be afraid to share your dreams with others. When you start talking about what you want, you’ll be surprised by the support and encouragement that flows to you – sometimes from the most unexpected sources!
Tell us about your dreams in the comments. What qualities do you want in your life? What do you already have that you can celebrate? How can you fine tune to live more of your dreams every day?
