How to rock the living savvy approach for your unique dream life

Living savvy is for women aspiring to live an extraordinary life, one that is rich in experience and fulfilling. Living savvy is about the choices you make every day to create a life that is fulfilling, satisfying and joyful. The wonderful thing about living savvy is that it is as individual as you.

So, how does ‘following’ the 5 steps to living savvy formula work when everyone has a different dream, and a different path?

The origin of the ’5 steps’

When I was pitching my concept for a Living Savvy TV program to the creative people behind behind the Foxtel channel, Lifestyle YOU, the conversation went something like this:

TV people: What’s the formula? The recipe for success? The coaching process seems vague whereas our audience wants a step-by-step process that is clear and easy to follow. The Super Nanny has the naughty corner and the time out – what do you have?

Me: A step-by-step process to follow, a formula, absolutely…

I had to think quick. My approach to coaching is definitely not formulaic, but I also appreciated that to engage a larger audience, and support more people in living savvy, I needed to give some guidelines that could be easily remembered, applied and shared.

And so the 5 steps to living savvy were born.

The ’5 steps’ is a toolkit, not a rulebook

After leaving that meeting I reflected on my coaching approach.

I recognised the tools that I used with my coaching clients—asking questions, doing something, making discoveries, committing and celebrating—and these are the 5 steps to living savvy.

But, how you follow those steps is up to you.

How Karen is rocking the living savvy approach

My friend Karen, one of the real women from living savvy online TV, has a motto: When something stops working for you, do something different.

She found herself in that situation at the end of last year and then she danced the steps to living savvy – her own way.

Ask (Step 1)

Karen asked: What do I want to be different?

Commit (Step 4)

She committed to moving her body, getting active and exercising.

Do (Step 2)

Karen decided to dig deeper and try something really different—she made a video and entered into the Lorna Jane Modern Muse competition. She wanted to share the message: When I value and appreciate who I am, then I feel strong and happy and this rubs off on others.

Celebrate (Step 5)

Karen is celebrating, in her words: “Restyling myself into a better version of me”.

Discover (Step 3)

Through this process Karen discovered a new viewpoint and a new way to approach the world. She realised that if she didn’t put herself first, then no one else would.

That means she now chooses to fill her day with people she loves, things that she is passionate about, time with people who support and encourage her, actions that contribute to her dream of being a successful career woman and a mother, and, of course, moving her body!
