AM reached a stage in her life where she started to ask what next?

It was time to take stock and think about what was important to her, how she wanted to live her life and who she wanted to share her life with.

AM decided to use life coaching to help her to discover the answers to these questions.

Just touching base as I have been extremely slack at the moment with my life story.  I have been sick with the flu for the last week and working to extremely tight deadlines at work, however, this is no excuse and I will have my coaching preparation to you tonight.

AM, Your work life is overflowing at the moment.

I have worked with other clients in a similar life situation to you, keen to shift the balance from being heavily weighted on work and to live a more inclusive life.  They too struggled in the early days to commit to the time that they put aside to their coaching sessions and coaching homework.  But with support, encouragement and a stern word when required got into the swing of valuing the time that they were giving themselves (it is your gift to yourself).

I thank you for your comments– definitely hit home what I am doing to the people I respect and how I have become consumed in an environment that is not a healthy balance!  This is not part of the “life design” that I working towards achieving!

To be honest, only the other day I had my best friend tell me that my closest cycle of friends had decided to steer clear of me for a week or two until “ the real AM came back”!

These comments and yours have definitely elevated me to work towards an effective, efficient and healthy life design!

You had asked me to work on my personal branding, smart, stylish and sassy – with a dash of sophistication!  This branding has not been achieved over the last few weeks – more like, selfish, stubborn, self absorbed – with a dash of arrogance!

Looking forward to our next contact.

Jo, once again – thank you!

A sign of a very savvy woman who can truly hear the words of others and take those words on board.

The challenge with coaching is stay on track but it not become another thing to do on your to do list which causes pain.  With everything going on with you now, what is a good timeframe for you with your actions?

You raised a few questions in my head last time we met which really did get me thinking. Which is why it did take me so long to write a short story.

To be honest I came up with two paths in my head to which I may have gone down, but then I had to ask myself – what did I want out of life, what was important to me – from where had I come and what direction did I really want to take.

Coming from a big family, I am one of 5 kids – the point 3, I had always lived in the shadow of my twin sister.  I was the larrikin sporty one she was the academic and the one with a talent for communicating.

I was lost, lonely and without any real importance in life.

For years I went from job to job with no real focus or goal of what I wanted to achieve.  I found this 5 years ago after applying for a job in the mining industry.

I never thought that I would get it, but low and behold I did!  I realised the place in life I had just come from, the struggles I had faced, the tears I had cried, the people I had met, the places I had seen – had developed the skill sets and knowledge that I needed for the industry and career that was to open.

Industry training was better than any university degree that I could possible get.

To be honest I have never looked back from this career point forward, well only to praise where I have come from as it got me to where I am today!  It has given me the drive, determination, confidence and competency to move forward in my career.

Now, today I find myself in a different struggle.

I am neither lost, nor lonely or without any real importance.  I have an exciting job, which offers me challenges, diversity and opportunity for career advancement – if I choose to.

I have a wonderful circle of true friends and family who support and adore me, as I do them!

The struggle I have in life is to define which path I now want to take – career, family or both.  All are truly rewarding in different ways.

I find myself forked and clouded trying to determine what is the best option for me.

Which brings me back to our conversation a few weeks ago – where do I want to go, what is important to me.

Most of my friends would say –I am extremely family orientated, career focused and wants the corporate office with pay packet to compliment, with the wardrobe to match!  She wants to travel and meet exciting people from all walks of life, though she’d be great with kids!

I may say that they are partly correct.  I do aspire to be the best that I possibly can, I love travelling and meeting exciting people from all walks of life and I love kids.

What am I creating is a big question?  Strong start to your story.  Seems to have prompted more questions than answers?

We have spoken about the life you are designing.  You have also mentioned how you want to be seen smart, stylish and sassy – with a dash of sophistication!

How do other people see you…lets find out.

Ask 5 people whose opinion that you value to describe how they see you.

A close college of mine whom I believe offers a very true insight into me!  Describes me as

 Passionate

AM is the most passionate woman I have ever met.  AM has a genuine nature and always express’s all of her beliefs with passion.

Devoted

AM devotes all of herself to what she believes in both professionally and personally

 Confidence

As much as AM may think she is not that confident, AM definitely is.  When AM walks in a room, all eyes are on her.

 Strong Minded to the point where it may be one sided;

AM has strength both physically and mentally and is not afraid to express assertion or aggression within her own beliefs.  Because of this, it sometimes is hard for AM to understand another person’s point of view.

This sometimes works in her favour and against her.

 Innovative

AM is an ideas person and is always thinking outside the box.

I allocated time to myself on the weekend to sit down and review all the materials that you had given me, it was actually quite refreshing to read – timing perfect!  I then booked in for a facial and massage – this too perfect

These are not activities that can be rushed.  It sounds like you created the space on the weekend for the ideas to take root and now you need to create more space for when everything bursts into flower ….following me with this analogy?

After you have a clear picture of how you show up or how you want to show up.  I think we need to revisit the story you told when asked the question What am I creating and fill in the blanks with the AM you want to become telling us how she turned this story into reality.

It is refreshing to hear what the people I value and adore think of me!  My friends have now asked me to do a similar exercise on them – which could prove interesting!

Rachel describes me as

1.       Loyalty -  No matter what time of day/night you can always count on AM being there. She would be one of the most loyal people I know to not only her friends and family but to work also which can be a problem sometimes. She is a great friend and very understanding and caring. I’m lucky to have her as a best friend.

2.       Honesty – You will always know where you stand with AM. Even if you don’t want to hear the truth she isn’t shy to let you know. You get one chance with her, if you lose her trust she won’t let you back in. She doesn’t “sugar coat” anything. Even if she has done something she will be the first to put up her hand and admit she is in the wrong. Very honest person.

3.       Opinionated –AM  has a strong personality with strong views and opinions. She is more than open to hearing what others have to say and does enjoy a good debate!

4.       Stubborn – Once she has made her mind up that is it….don’t even try to change it. In saying that in an argument with family or friends AM will put her guard down and call if there has been no contact for a while, she doesn’t like things to linger on.

5.       Perfectionist – AM will put 110% in to everything she does from exercise right through to her successful career. With work she is easily frustrated when others don’t do what they are supposed to do which in turn she feels very let down and takes this to heart.

These are precious gifts that your friends are giving you ….how will you treasure these documents?

A wonderful idea that you and your friends can share celebrating your qualities and the things that make you all so  special.  You will have to start your own coaching circle!

I have been back to the writing board and thinking about the life smart, stylish and sassy – with a dash of sophistication AM wants to create!

I have attached a draft that I have compiled, though I don’t think this is yet finished!  More of a vision I have come up with for the next 12 months.

Once again I have struggled with the concept of putting my life in the next 12 months down on paper.  Why – is a great question?

I ask myself “Is it because I am trying to fight it or more to the point accept what it is I really want to achieve in the next 12 months!”

At first I thought “I want a new car, a black Mazda CX-7, the luxury model with all the bells and whistles!”, though then went Why? It will just sit in the garage and collect dirt!

No, I want out of life in the next 12 months, a life that is challenging, exciting and offers a cultural experience – I want to work overseas!

I need to get totally out of my comfort zone, move away from my security network and learn to communication on a different level!

Overseas I would remove a layer that has potentially been restricting and suffocating me from taking that next step, both personally and professionally.

I am impartial as to the city, though would favour Singapore, Paris or Montreal!  Oh what one could do in these cities!

The shopping, the night life, the travel opportunities that I would have right at my door step!  Not to mention the characters that I would encounter!

Did I forget to mention work – well I’d only be doing that to funds the experiences I want to encounter in this new life!

Seriously, I believe that I still have the “want” to expand these wings across the globe and explore the life untouched to me thus far!  Who knows once on this journey I encounter an irresistible, captivating, challenging and accepting male character that appreciate that attributes that I have to offer!

Then we settle back within a country that we would always call home!

Hey there

Wonderful start…here are some thoughts…

If 12 months is tricky then look forward 2 months and then from that spot look forward another couple… so picture where you will be in November and then when you have that think mmm…now February and keep building until you reach 12 months.

Another approach…rework…The life that I want to create (and live) for the next 12 months is challenging, exciting and culturally rich where I shed my layers and finish this sentence…

Then ask How will I do this

Option…live and work overseas

Option… step outside my comfort zone by…….list ways that you can do this that doesn’t include option one

Option…..

I am wanting you to think  about how you can start to live this life or live more of this life without putting all your eggs into the one basket (being option one). The fine tuning aspect of living savvy is all about the small things that you can do immediately to live the life that you want.

What do you think?

I followed your suggestions and put something more short term down on paper…but then I got to thinking ……

On reflection when I read the context of my story it made me stop and think …. one thing hit home from another email you had sent me – “all your eggs in one basket”!

I have decided not to send it to you as when I wrote that story I was falling into the same patterns of thinking.

Only yesterday, I was discussing with family members how you had help shape my life to a whole new level – both personally and professionally! The last few months it has indeed been a journey of self discovery and acceptance!

I had a re think (again) over the weekend – where am I now, where do I want to be and what do I do to get there! These are all business connotations that I use in my day to day work – though I had never put them into play in my personal life.

What do I do to get there – this is the question I have not answered or avoided! So, in true – smart, stylish, sassy with a dash of sophistication style I have assigned myself a little task to achieve by Christmas!

By the time Christmas is here I am to have been on 4 dates! This does not include guys whom I currently have coffee with – they are guys that have entertained my thoughts, or more to the point yet to entertain my thoughts, over the course of the next few months! I have some beautiful events and opportunities that are coming over the next few months and I don't want to restrict myself nor let another to pass me by!

I hear in my mail to you over the last few months the confident business women and where she wants to be professionally, however, I hear a lack of understanding and confidence in my personal wellbeing – this task will help re define that!

Thanks again for all your guidance and support.
