A weekly tradition where we pop the cork on the week that was, celebrate what worked, reflect on what didn’t, and look forward to a sparkling new week of possibility. I hope you’ll join me and share your reflections in the comments.
What am I celebrating?
Quiet time with Andrew. The last two weekends Andrew and I have sat together on the couch and watched a movie. An ordinary thing which feels extraordinary. Very, very unusual for us to spend quiet time together, we are usually focused on doing something in different places of the house, the city or country. It was lovely sharing a space and an activity.
What am I acknowledging?
Drawing upon past experiences. This week the negotiation and games continues as Andrew and I continue with our house hunting adventure. There was a moment this week where I realised the possibility of “loosing” the house we have our eye on is nothing compared to loosing two friends this year and watching their families live through these losses. Waiting for a decision on an offer we have made is nothing to the 3 years of waiting I did before I fell pregnant with Bella. These life experiences put everything else into perspective, this is just a house (a beautiful house, that we could make a fabulous home but really just a house).
What was missing?
First week of the school holidays has meant we have said good bye to our usual daily routines….they have not been missed. School holidays also means that I have said good bye to any quite time for me (I am not used to having my kids with me 24 / 7) finding that I am slipping into old habits of puring myself a small glass of wine around 5.30pm (I am sure that these glasses will get fuller as the holidays stretch on) and sitting i.e zoning out in front of the news for 5 minutes while Andrew supervises teeth brushing
What small change can I make for next week?
Keep transitioning into holiday mode. Our boxing “camp” starts next week which the kids love and means picnic dinners for them and later in the week the kids and I start our holiday summer road trip!
