Champagne Friday #5

Photo of champange glassesA weekly tradition where we pop the cork on the week that was, celebrate what worked, reflect on what didn't, and look forward to a sparkling new week of possibility. I hope you'll join me and share your reflections in the comments.

What do I acknowledge from my week?

Remembering that making some progress, however small, will get me to my ultimate goal quicker than waiting for the 'perfect' time. Several weeks ago I blocked out a whole day to do my Christmas shopping. Then the day gradually got filled with work appointments. So I blocked out another whole day. And, again, work appointments took over. I realised that if the Christmas shopping was ever going to get done, I just had to start any way that I could.  So this week I picked up gifts in whatever windows of opportunity I could find – 15 minutes here and 30 minutes there. It's been a lot less stressful and now my shopping is finished!

What do I celebrate from my week?

As I type this post, I'm helping my daughter (Miss 6) write her Christmas cards to her school friends.  She writes the card and I pop it in the envelope with a candy cane – a smooth system! I am celebrating as, for her, this is a cheerful ritual untainted by the expectations and 'shoulds' that often weigh us down at this time of the year. What a wonderful way to be reminded of the spirit of the festive season – sending good wishes and creating special times for those special people in your life.

What was missing from my week?

This was a great week! My practice of being mindful, and focusing on one task at a time, has helped me feel much lighter. I didn't feel there was anything missing.

What small change can I make to live a little more savvy next week?

This week I read a thoughtful blog by Sarah Wilson, about the virtues of cheerful as opposed to happiness. It has inspired me to take the cheerful approach as I embark on a week away with my children, staying with my parents.

Ready to pop the cork with me? I'd love to hear about your week in the comments…
