A weekly tradition where we pop the cork on the week that was, celebrate what worked, reflect on what didn’t, and look forward to a sparkling new week of possibility. I hope you’ll join me and share your reflections in the comments.
What am I celebrating?
This week I am celebrating things that have warmed my heart, put a spring in my step, brought a smile to my face or made me laugh.
- The outcome of the election.
- That when I look at my pink nail polish (wonderfully applied by Janine) I see a photo of my mother, sister & my teenage self taken before we left for my Aunty’s wedding. Teased hair, bright eyeshadow to match the long nails, pink harem pants (it was the eighties) and wonderful smiles.
- Cat, suggesting that in the school holidays we do a step aerobics class (I am soooo uncoordinated)
- The love of family that was quietly on show with the return home of Karen’s husband Charles after 3 months in PNG and the excitement of their son Harrison when he discovers that he will soon have a sister. Yes, that’s right, Karen is having a little girl in January.
- The ripple effect of living savvy. I am watching a friend change her life by fine tuning (or making big changes in small steps). As she tells it, she has been inspired by “a secret network of women who are honest about needing more”. These are women who are living savvy (which is not always easy), who share what works for them but don’t preach, are open about their failures and challenges but refuse to get stuck in a rut and are generous and genuine with encouragement and support.
- Booking a weekend away with my friend Karla at Peppers in Kingscliff. In one month we will be sitting by our private plunge pool, reading, drinking champagne, and pondering a walk up Mt. Warning.
What am I acknowledging?
This week, I am acknowledging passing thoughts, quick happenings and small things I have done that are very big for me. In the fullness of life it is easy to miss these seemingly small things that can bring significant and lasting change if I take a moment to capture, so I can return later to reflect and build upon.
- Parenting is a state of mind
- That unsolicited offers of support and assistance is priceless
- Moments where you want to pull the car over and throw up with uncertainty pass in a flash
- That there are times in life when it is ok to go after everything I want (thank you Gala Darling for the encouragement)
- I can ask for something or make requests without expectation
- People love and appreciate me for who I am (and it feels good to be reminded of this)
- Listening to my body and heading off to bed at 7.15pm on Tuesday night (I was sound asleep by 8.30)
What was missing?
I have mentioned this before, I need to re-structure my work habits and routines, there is to much flexibility, clearer boundaries are needed. No quick answer to this, still working it out.
What small change can I make for next week?
Continue with my commitment from last week of 10 – 15 minutes of Yoga a few times a week to compliment my weekly yoga class. Have been doing this but want to make sure it becomes a natural habit & part of my weekly routine.
Ready to pop the cork with me? I’d love to hear about your week in the comments…
