Champagne Friday #24

A weekly tradition where we pop the cork on the week that was, celebrate what worked, reflect on what didn’t, and look forward to a sparkling new week of possibility. I hope you’ll join me and share your reflections in the comments.

What am I celebrating?

On Monday we posted How to be happier every day and shared practical ideas for practicing gratitude. In the spirit of walking the talk, this week I have taken a moment to record what I am grateful each day:

Monday – I am grateful for my fella, Andrew for packing the car with all the paraphernalia that you take away when you are travelling with kids (bikes, scooters, suitcases, electronic entertainment, food etc) saving me from doing it as we headed away for  #seachangeforaweek.

Tuesday – I am grateful for a warm home and cosy bed as the record cold weather continues along the east coast of Australia.  Give a thought to those people who are sleeping rough – http://salvos.org.au/

Wednesday – I am grateful for friends who think of me when an exciting project or business idea comes across their 'desk’. Special thank you to Cat and Nerida.

Thursday – I am grateful for my health, well being & physicality that I have been able to run along the beach, join a yoga class & Pilates class and have a PT boxing session on the beach during my  #seachangeforaweek

Friday – I am grateful for the wonderful people that are my in-laws.  This week the kids and I left Brisbane for the NSW coastal village of Woolgoolga for #seachangeforaweek. I have been able to work and take time for myself while the kids are cared, nurtured & entertained.

What am I acknowledging?

How intoxicated I become with the lure of possibility. I have promising meetings planned for the next couple of weeks.
I love what I do. I coached a new client this week, this woman was open to asking herself a big question or two in life, generous in sharing her story, was open to ideas and willing to be challenged and stretched to think and do differently

What was missing?

A few things this week

My appointment with Heidi the acupuncturist with the magic hands. I see Heidi once and she takes care of all the hormonal fallout that builds up for me from my mid-cycle.  I will spare you the details but I am missing the Heidi magic.

As the temperatures plummets I am usually starting to prepare for a getaway to the snowfields – not this year – so I am missing the anticipation of all things white and whooshing down the slopes.

All the preparations that go along with a family holiday in the snow (this could be added to the list of things that I am grateful for a #blessingindisguise)

My PhD. I have lost my way with my PhD in the last month.  In the early hours of Sunday morning I was questioning if the time is right for this project.  It is not the lack of time that I find the biggest challenge although that is a concern, the biggest barrier I need to overcome is my lack of brain space to give this project the in-depth consideration it requires…crowding out this project is the ongoing energy and planning into realising my vision of creating a movement of women who are living savvy, earning an income, creating & producing new video content (on the smell of an oily rag).

What small change can I make for next week?

Be aware of my breathing – focus on breathing regularly and deeply.

Ready to pop the cork with me? I’d love to hear about your week in the comments…

Hey Jo… Am loving the idea of Champagne Friday!
I'm Celebrating…the fact I'm participating in my third running event this year on Sunday (10km's – eek!), can't quite believe that as early as February this year I WASN'T a long distance (as in longer than a run to the fridge!) runner and now in July…I AM! Also, have had a large amount of luck with retail coups…I am the Goddess of bargain finds!
I'm Acknowledging…My niece's 13th birthday on Sunday. She was diagnosed with a very rare brain tumour when she was 18mths old and after experimental chemo and an op that found less than 20% of tumour removed was sent home with only 3mths to live. FAST FORWARD to tomorrow..officially a teenager! I'm so very proud of her for enduring all the crap she's been through, and for still turning out to be one helluva wonderful young girl! Oh, and I also acknowledge Dr. Charlie Teo who went where no-one else would and got the rest of that tumour out so that we could watch her grow up…he is, without a doubt, the most magnificent of men!
I'm missing…my niece and her brother dearly..I left Adelaide (where they're living) Nov. last year and although I speak to them regularly, I still feel a little empty at times. Especially when they reach milestones and have birthdays…it's a hard time of year for me.
My small change…will be to try and focus on getting my garden done. I want to be able to grow my own flowers so I don't have to purchase them all the time. Thing is…I have a black thumb..last rose's I planted, I killed…so I'm going to try again, and again 'til I get it right!

    • Sugarcane, your reflections capture what champagne friday & living savvy is all about – celebrating those ordinary moments in life that make life special alongside those extraordinary moments like your nieces birthday.  Kudos to you with the running – goes to show what can be acheived when you are focused in efforts.   All the best for tomorrow.

Thanks Jo…I felt pretty pumped after I hit the submit button..I just found out our low tonight in Perth is going to be 0 degrees…I'm not too sure I'll be able to do a decent time, seeing as I'll be in ugg boots with a hot water bottle strapped to my belly! Awkward!
Oh, and as a former Defence girl your fave phrase is called 'the 5 P's'…Prior Preparation Prevents Pisspoor Performance! Although really it's 6 'P's'..so they're not so good at spelling and simple maths! ;-)

  • Wishing you all the best with your week ahead – one of my favourite phraes from the British military goes something like preperation + planning prevents piss poor performance.  Sounds like you are heeding this message!

  • A really beautiful Champagne Friday post Jo … reminds me of the complexity that is our lives – while some things are great, others not so … and the 'not so' parts can really impact the great ones.
For me this week I'm celebrating being in my groove on the business front – lots of really interesting a juicy conversations with clients I enjoy working with.
I'm acknoweldging that sometimes there is a lag … and present bank balance isn't reflective of my worth, the value I offer or the success of my business.
Missing this week has been phsycial exercise – a combination of both work and not feeling 100% has kept me from the gym … whilst it's been the right decision health wise I'm feeling the effects. Also missing has been time to work on some of my bigger development projects … desparately want to get to them … but can *so* relate to your 'missing' of the lack of brain-space required … some things just can't be 'crammed into' time-constrained blocks of 'doingness'.
Small Change for next week … a bit more forward planning to ensure a VERY busy and logisitically demanding week goes smoothly.
    Cheers.
