Champagne Friday #21

Photo of champange glassesA weekly tradition where we pop the cork on the week that was, celebrate what worked, reflect on what didn’t, and look forward to a sparkling new week of possibility. I hope you’ll join me and share your reflections in the comments.

What am I celebrating?

That there are times when near enough is good enough.  My yoga teacher in all her wisdom tells us that if we picture ourselves assuming a position then this is working on the pathways in our mind that tell our muscles and limbs where to move to in the future.  The process of thinking and picturing is an important step in standing on your head for example.

Well this week my fella Andrew and I came close to assuming an unlikely position when I phoned him at work and casually invited him home for some “afternoon delight” then a nice long nap before picking children up from school. Surprise, Surprise Andrew said yes (he has a very strong work ethic and once at work it is difficult to get him away). Whoo hoo, it was on!

Less than 15 minutes later Andrew phoned to say that he had delivered his cover story*, grabbed his briefcase and computer, and was out of his office, but had NO WAY of getting home. He'd forgotten the car was at the mechanics and all other vehicles were out on jobs – DAMN.

His next comment summed up his feelings and mine – “I was feeling sleepy too and was looking forward to that nap”.  Like a real woman that I am I have shared this story with friends this week and laughed and laughed.

* By the way, Andrew was "sneaking” away from the business he owns.

What am I acknowledging?

The buzz I get from coming together with women living savvy.  I did this twice on the weekend.  Once on Friday night at a SATC2 event and then again on Sunday when I hosted a table for 10 fabulous, smart (and incidentally many tall and wearing high heels) women at the High Tea Party. We heard Tracy Bevan from the McGrath Foundation deliver wholeheartedly the story of her friendship with Jane McGrath, and I also met the women behind Be Be intimate massager.

What was missing?

No gaps this week.  I have been reading my novel most nights before bed, enjoying exercising in the sunshine without melting in the heat.  A stunning time of year in Brisbane now.

What small change can I make for next week?

Yoga will not be on for the next two weeks as our teacher has gone on a 10 day solitude (& silence) retreat. As Justine said, I have a need to break out in song just thinking about having to be silent. My body and mind miss my yoga time so to stay nimble in body and soul I am committing to a few times a week after a run or gym session to do 10 – 15 minutes of  Asanas.

Ready to pop the cork with me? I’d love to hear about your week in the comments…

  • Thank you for joing in the living savvy celebrations Suellen.   My first reaction when reading your comments was WOW what a week you had & then wonder mmm-what have I done this week.  I quickly reminded myself that an important part of living savvy is not to compare my acheivements to others…to celebrate my own extraordinary.   "See" you around again.

  • Mmmm,

Celebrating … seeing the lovely Suellen here, in the Living Savvy community after *playing* over at Robin's sharewords *space* – I just love how today's technolgy enables such a rich connection, collaboration and discovery amongst people who would otherwise never meet.

Also celebrating some great business wins – 2 new high-quality client referrals … 1 in particular that will result in collaboration with professional colleagues that I just *love* hanging out with
Acknowledging – great company, awesome collaboration and the technology platforms that enable us to do it … I often joke about my *addiction* to social media … but wow, it makes my life & community so much richer

Missing – me time … quality me time that feeds my spirit. The structure of my work has changed this week and will continue to do so … so I will need to put attention on this
Small Change for Next Week – funnily enough, me time … I'll use my new-found train-commute here & there to read something that *feeds* me … and not business related.
    Cheers!

  • Hi Jo,
I've been following, reading & watching your LivingSavvy site for a while.  Thought this week I'd stop being a voyeur and share.
    Celebrating?

I ran 42kms this week in preparation for my first marathon in September.
I finished writing half of the modules for my new Kick-start Your Best Life online coaching programme and finished my last recording of Real Women in their 40s.  I'm soooo excited about what I'm doing right now I need to focus on keeping balance.
    Acknowledging?
Well the lovely Cat Matson has helped me tremendously as part of Robin Dickinson's sharewords community and I'd like to acknowledge Cat.
My husband is a true fan and supporter of everything I do and I couldn't do it without his encouragement so I'm acknowledging him too.
    Missing?

Nothing right now.  Life is great!
    Small Change for Next Week?
Be slightly more disciplined about checking my Twitter and Facebook updates.  I'm quite addicted and they are very distracting so I'm going to treat them like eating – no snacking between meals.
Would love to pop a cork and toast the week!
