Champagne Friday #16: Looking back

Photo of champange glassesA weekly tradition where we pop the cork on the week that was, celebrate what worked, reflect on what didn’t, and look forward to a sparkling new week of possibility. I hope you’ll join me and share your reflections in the comments.

This week I decided to look back on the past few months of Champagne Friday and reflect on what I have done (or not) to get more of what I felt was missing at that time in my life.  Were my efforts momentary or have made some lasting changes?

23rd  April  – Being more focused in work.

I can celebrate that I minimised distractions and, for the time I have had available to work, I have made the most of those moments.  Haven’t got as far in the projects as I had hoped however given the public holiday, recent time away from home and the office – I will celebrate this as a win.

16th April – Letting go of habits & routines while I was staying with a friend.

This was difficult – I acknowledge my efforts to remain aware of fluctuating anxiety and of not being in “control” of time, and also my efforts to do what I needed to into “being” – such as a run each day while I was away.  Letting go became easier after the first 24 hours.

9th April -  Return to my to do list re-vitalised after school holiday break.

Pop the cork on this one!

2nd April – Say ‘yes’ more often to my children during the holidays

Pop the cork on this one too!   There were times I started to say no and then remembered my commitment – saying yes feels so much better then no.

26th March – Take care of my back by fine tuning my jumping rope style.

Well I took a break for a few weeks as I did not want to undo all the fantastic work of my “magical” acupuncturist.  After some technique tips – back to it this week – feeling very stiff at the moment.  Acknowledge the adaptations I have made to stretch more after skipping, skip on grass to minimise impact and not do it every day!!

19th March – Seek inspiration in the unusual & quirky.

Not much to celebrate or acknowledge here during this week – I seem to remember being very uninspired and grumpy – PMT maybe?

12th March – Go to weekly Yoga lesson (it is the best $12.00, I spend each week).

Pop the cork on this one.  Acknowledging that I continue to make this a priority and have turned down a couple of engagements that conflicted with my practice.

5th March – Reaching for my novel and not the TV remote when I am winding down from my evening session on the computer. No turning on the TV after 10pm at night!

This is what I committed to over a month ago.  I have finished a novel that I really enjoyed and that made it easy to go scurrying off to bed.  However with my study commitments getting greater, another novel is “luxury” I cannot afford at this time. So I have been turning off the computer earlier, unwinding on the lounge in front of a program that I have IQ’d and can watch free of ads and when that is over, turning off and heading to bed.  This routine although different to what I first “designed” is working well for me at the moment.

Now it's your turn!

Before you pop the cork on your week, take a moment to reflect on your past commitments. Then tell us … What are you celebrating? What are you acknowledging? What was missing? What small change can you make to have more of that next week? Image by nImAdestiny
