A weekly tradition where we pop the cork on the week that was, celebrate what worked, reflect on what didn’t, and look forward to a sparkling new week of possibility. I hope you’ll join me and share your reflections in the comments.
What am I celebrating?
The coming of Easter break and the school holidays, which means spending some chill out time with the children, as a family. I'm looking forward to a visit from my cousin, a road trip to Sydney, picking up a fabulous new jacket at Brunswick Heads, and then trying on boots at Byron Bay.
What am I acknowledging?
This week I let go of my todo list (for a day), took the pressure of myself, and enjoyed a cup of tea with friends after we attended a school event. I cannot recall having ever done this before spontaneously as I most often have somewhere else I need to be. After a jumpy start (it felt weird to be sitting still in the middle of the day) it was wonderful – thank you to Karen & Carmel.
What was missing?
In the last week of term children are tired and their concentration is running low – getting through school, work and extra activities requires a firmer “touch” and more direction. I missed stopping to enjoy the moments and allowing the children to stop and enjoy their moments.
What small change can I make to have more of that next week?
I'm going to say 'yes' more often to my children during the holidays. When you become a parent, no one tells you how often you have to say 'no' and how crappy it makes you feel. I'm letting the kids know they will be hearing 'yes', 'sure' and 'absolutely' more often in the next week (with a caveat once the school holidays come to an end so does mum’s generosity). I am also going to be fine tuning my jumping rope style. Yes, I have been doing some skipping at the end of each workout and my technique is not gentle on the back. So I am going to work on my co-ordination and try to skip like a boxer bouncing on one foot and then the other.
Ready to pop the cork with me? I’d love to hear about your week in the comments…
