Champagne Friday #1

Photo of champange glassesThis is the very first post in what I hope will be a weekly tradition where we pop the cork on the week that was, celebrate what worked, reflect on what didn't, and look forward to a sparkling new week of possibility. I hope you'll join me and share your reflections in the comments.

What do I acknowledge from my week?

Recognising that while I am absorbed in launching this big project that is living savvy. I am continuing to do what is most important to me…spending time with family, making time for friends and keeping my commitment to exercise.

What do I celebrate from my week?

This week I am focusing on the parenting of my children. I listened at 5am one morning when my 4 year old was the first to wish his sister a happy birthday, I observed the birthday girl wait with patience and an easy acceptance until early evening to open her gifts and I watched as she invited her brother to help her unwrap her gifts. It is on these days that you give yourself a pat on the back, acknowledge your efforts as a parent and celebrate the results.

What was missing from my week?

Punctuality. I am noticing that I am arriving at many meetings and appointments 10 minutes late (I am consistent with the time). This was a habit I worked hard to change several years ago.

What small change can I make to have more of that next week?

To plan to arrive at appointments 5 – 10 minutes before the start time. This gives me some wiggle room if I am having some last minute loose ends to tidy. Importantly it allows me to live my values of respecting my time and the time of others. I'd love you to share your Champagne Friday responses in the comments…

Acknowledgement to both Natalie and Rebecca for taking the time to reflect on your week, celebrate what worked, acknowledge what you did and then share your committment to close the gap!

  • What do I acknowledge from my week?
Being aware of what my body needs to heal from surgery, and balancing that with my desire to jump back into my creative work.

What do I celebrate from my week?
How my partner and I have bonded, supported each other and worked together as we *both* (yes, both!) recovered from surgery.

What was missing from my week?
Truly grounded, quiet time – my mind was running 100 miles/hr all week.

What small change can I make to have more of that next week?
Sit quietly / meditate for 5 min when I wake up, before launching into the day. Do this at least once more during the day.

  • I shall have to celebrate without the champagne as I am now 33 weeks pregnant ;) but I can honestly say this week has been so full of exciting things.

I have just launched a blog called The Tiny Soprano (that’s me!) celebrating self-development (embracing change, thinking differently, taking action, living healthily and positively) and while the beginning was very challenging, I am celebrating the beautiful people who have supported me in my journey so far. (Especially my husband and my two girls who have had to put up with me glued to the laptop with a head full of CSS).
What was missing from my week? The procrastination-banishing fairy just didn’t show up when I really needed her to help me get my ebook finished. But I have accepted my “stuck” (as @Havi would say) and I’m going into the weekend feeling much more focused on what needs to be done.
Looking forward to visiting this site more often too, Jo – it looks just like the sort of place for a girl like me. :)
