![]() Today’s post is the first of what will be a monthly post where we pause to reflect on what we’ve been doing to live our intention for the year. ![]() When talking about finding your life purpose, a popular exercise in personal development circles is to write your own epitaph – that final, short statement etched on your gravestone that somehow is meant to sum up the contribution you have made to this world in your lifetime… I’m not so sure about that. ![]() You’ve had those moments, right? When you see your life with new, and sometimes painful, clarity and wonder, ‘Is this what I really want?’ and ‘Did I really choose this path?’ ![]() If your dreams, like mine, include a movie star lifestyle of private jets, island retreats and fabulous parties, you may well have given up on the idea of ‘living your dreams’. You know that no amount of thinking positive, or practising the law of attraction, is going to transform your average day (whether it’s taking care of kids, juggling business meetings, or powering through a mile-long todo list) into one filled with indulgence, glamour and luxury. Am I right? ![]() Through my work as a personal, executive and leadership coach, an organisational performance consultant, and a public speaker, I’ve come to know many fabulous women. As I listened to their stories, I began to recognise the key characteristics that distinguished those women who were fulfilled, happy and truly successful. Of course, each story was different – but they shared one important trait, an approach to life I call “living savvy”. ![]() I mentioned in last week’s Champagne Friday that I had been spending time with my friend Meryl and her family, her husband and two young sons. In the last 18 months Meryl has been diagnosed with metastatic cancer, undergone operations and treatments… yet despite theseincredibly tough times I can see Meryl’s spirit is still strong. How does she do it? ![]() How do we end up somewhere we never intended to be? Whether that’s at the end of our lives wishing we’d done more to live a little more extraordinary, or at a mid-life crossroads wondering ‘Is this what I really wanted?’, the million dollar question is… ![]() I don’t do New Year’s resolutions because, to me, resolutions too often emphasise failings and are structured as commands to ‘do better’. Instead, I take some quiet time with open-ended questions that challenge me to look within and reflect on what I’ve learned and how I want to put those learnings into action in the future. Here’s how I do it. ![]() My dream was, and is, to create a movement that inspires and supports women from around the world to live savvy – an online community of women creating their dream life that is fulfilling, satisfying and joyful. ![]() Amidst all the political drama that has gripped Australia over the past few months, I’ve been thinking about power and leadership, and what part they play in living an extraordinary life. When you ask yourself how you want to be remembered, is it for the positions of power you held, or for the difference you made in other people’s lives? |
